Laser skin resurfacing and Other Acne Scar Treatments

If your acne is leaving behind scars, you don’t have to grin and bear it. There are cosmetic treatments available to help diminish the appearance of acne scars and prevent new scars from forming. Take a look at some options to help reduce acne scars.
Laser Treatments for Acne Scars
Laser skin resurfacing: The SmartXide CO2 laser is a safe and effective resurfacing laser which helps even out skin texture, improve skin tone and promote the formation of new collagen. Collagen is a protein that acts as a building block for skin, and the formation of new collagen can help fill acne scars. This advanced laser treatment requires just a fraction of the downtime compared to traditional methods, with minimal discomfort. Many patients notice an improvement in the appearance of the scars after one treatment, however deep scars may require a series of treatments.
Non-Laser Acne Scar Treatment
Filler injections: Dermal fillers can be used alone or in combination with another type of treatment. They help by filling indentations in the skin caused by deep acne scarring. Fillers, however, are not permanent and may need to be repeated every four to six months, as the product reabsorbs into the skin over time.
Chemical peels: Different types of chemical peel treatments are available to improve the appearance of acne scars. The peels work by producing a controlled injury to the skin to remove the scar and promote growth of new, healthy looking skin.
Microdermabrasion: Patients with milder acne scars may benefit from microdermabrasion, a quick and gentle approach to skin rejuvenation. This treatment works by using tiny crystals to buff away skin cells, revealing ofter, fresh skin.
