Sclerotherapy

At NDDA, we have several ways of making both spider veins and blue veins invisible and eliminating the symptoms associated with them.

Are you experiencing the appearance varicose veins or spider veins? Does the appearance of your superficial prominent veins cause you to feel embarrassed or insecure? Prominent superficial veins can also cause uncomfortable symptoms such as swelling, burning sensations, and aching due to the fact that they impede blood circulation. It is our main goal to help each of our patients achieve optimal health and wellness. That is why we offer personalized sclerotherapy treatments at North Dallas Dermatology Associates to treat and eliminate superficial spider and varicose veins.

What Types Of Veins Does NDAA Treat?

Almost half of all women have either spider or blue veins – unattractive blue, purple or red clusters on their thighs, calves or ankles. In addition to being unsightly, these veins can also cause burning, swelling or cramping at times.

At NDDA, we have several ways of making both spider veins and blue veins invisible and eliminating the symptoms associated with them. These treatments are nearly painless, minimally invasive and involve little recovery time.

How Are Veins Treated?

Sclerotherapy is the cosmetic dermatology treatment of choice for spider veins. This procedure involves injecting a sclerosing agent – typically a saline solution – into the vein, causing it to fade gradually over time. The procedure uses a tiny micro-needle which causes minimal pain.

Larger blue veins are treated with sclerotherapy, Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatments, or a combination of both. With IPL, the light energy is absorbed by the targeted vein, leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected. The energy heats the vein wall to the point that it collapses and closes and causes the vein’s blood to coagulate. Over time the coagulated blood is absorbed by the body and the vein becomes invisible.

How Long Does The Procedure Take?

The duration of time needed to complete the procedure may vary from patient to patient, depending on how many veins are being addressed.

Recovery Time

Following your treatment, movement such as walking is important to prevent blood clots from forming within the area that was treated. It is recommended that patients wear compression stockings or bandages for up to two weeks after their sclerotherapy session. Most patients are able to return to their daily routine in about 24 to 48 hours after their procedure. However, it is important for patients to avoid strenuous exercise or activities for a few weeks after receiving sclerotherapy therapy.
