Pediatric Dermatologist
Pediatric Dermatology is a subspecialty practice in which specially trained physicians dedicate their efforts towards providing the most exceptional care possible, tailored to the unique needs of children. A pediatric dermatologist completes an internship, residency training in dermatology and fellowship training in pediatric dermatology, followed by board certification in both general and pediatric dermatology. From education regarding age appropriate care of normal skin, through evaluation of birthmarks, we offer expert management of common and rare skin disorders and help manage short and long term dermatologic needs of children. Whether your child is dealing with warts, acne, insect bites, blisters, skin infections or atopic dermatitis, we strive to provide effective customized care. We also offer surgical and laser treatment of dermatological conditions as appropriate. We are honored to have the opportunity to care for your family; come see us and experience the difference!
Some of the most common pediatric skin conditions treated by our physicians include:
Ecezema
Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, refers to an inflammatory skin condition that may come and go over time, and affects 10 to 20 percent of children. Children with atopic dermatitis often experience itchy skin lesions on the face and body due to a variety of reasons. This condition starts with the immune system and there are several treatments available to help relieve symptoms and improve the skin. A visit with our dermatologists will help determine a custom plan for your child¡¯s needs.
Birthmarks
Birthmarks are changes on the skin that can range in color from tan and brown to red, pink or purple. They are determined by your genes and may be present at birth or develop later in life. Most birthmarks do not affect a child¡¯s overall health, but special patterns may suggest a need for additional monitoring. Depending on their size and location, some birthmarks may need medical or surgical treatment. A child¡¯s skin should be evaluated at least once a year by a dermatologist or pediatrician for birthmarks, with further recommendations made based on their unique skin findings.
Acne
Acne is one of the most common skin conditions in teenagers. This may occur as a result of hormones, heredity, cosmetics, stress, bacteria or other factors. Acne is most common in teenagers, but can affect patients of different age groups. Treatment for acne can vary depending on the type, severity and location of acne lesions, but may include topical or oral medications, over-the-counter creams, laser treatments, cortisone injections or Accutane (isotretinoin). Your doctor will determine the most appropriate treatment for your child¡¯s individual condition based on a thorough examination.
