Laser Hair Removal

At NDDA, we use intense pulsed light (Clarity II) to reduce and gradually eliminate unwanted hair from most parts of the body. It is a safe, non-invasive procedure.

How Does Clarity II Remove Hair?

This computer-controlled machine sends pulses of specific wavelengths of light deep into the skin targeted specifically at the pigment in hair follicles. The pigment absorbs the energy from the light, heating the follicle and destroying its ability to grow hair. The tissue surrounding the hair follicle is untouched.

What Types Of Hair Can Be Treated?

Clarity II treatments can be used to treat people of all skin types with hair that has at least some pigment.

Is It Safe?

Done correctly by a trained professional under the supervision of a dermatologist, Clarity II treatments for hair removal are very safe. Each treatment regimen, however, must be customized to a patient’s specific skin type and hair color.

What Are The Possible Side Effects?

Side effects for laser hair removal are rare. Patients may have some slight redness or local swelling at the treatment site which typically resolves within several hours. On rare occasions, blistering or bruising may occur. The treated skin could also become lighter or darker in color after treatment, but will generally return to normal within a few weeks. Limiting sun exposure before and after treatments will minimize the risk of complications.

What Are The Treatments Like?

A typical procedure takes 20 – 30 minutes. Prior to treatment, a cold gel is applied to the areas of the skin to be treated and a patient will wear protective eyewear during the procedure. Pulses of light are transmitted through a crystal hand piece into the targeted areas causing a warming sensation. Although most patients tolerate the procedure well, a topical numbing cream may be applied prior to the procedure if needed. Most patients find that the hair from targeted areas starts to fall out about one to two weeks after treatment.

How Many Treatments Are Needed To See Great Results?

Clarity II treatments are designed to gradually remove unwanted hair. The number of treatments necessary to get optimal results varies with each patient’s skin type and the pigment and density of the hair.

Additionally, Clarity II targets only growing hairs and at least a small percentage of each patient’s follicles have “resting hairs”. These hairs will eventually cycle into a growth phase and subsequent Clarity II treatments will eliminate them.
