November brings thoughts of Thanksgiving feasts and gathering with loved ones, but it also serves as a reminder to care for ourselves. An aging neck, with neck lines, wrinkles, and sagging—often referred to as “turkey neck”—can be among the first signs of aging, especially on the delicate neck and jawline.
In the spirit of the season of giving thanks, we are thankful for the many non-surgical innovations that we have to offer our patients to look and feel their best. Here, we’ll explore Emface, Ultherapy, Kybella, CoolSculpting, dermal fillers, Sculptra and exosome therapy for neck rejuvenation. We will also discuss two skin care products specifically designed for the neck to enhance these treatments or that can be used alone for both preventative and restorative measures.
1. Emface for Skin Lifting and Toning
Emface is a non-invasive technology that combines radiofrequency and electromagnetic stimulation to lift and firm the skin. When applied to the lower face and neck, Emface stimulates the underlying muscles and promotes collagen and elastin production, providing a subtle yet effective lift to the skin. This treatment can be used alongside other therapies for an overall enhanced appearance.
2. Ultherapy for Skin Tightening
Ultherapy is a non-invasive procedure that uses focused ultrasound energy to target the deep layers of the skin, stimulating collagen production to lift and tighten the neck and jawline over time. The ultrasound technology delivers heat to precise depths within the skin, triggering a natural healing response that results in a gradual tightening effect. Many people appreciate Ultherapy for its ability to improve skin firmness without the need for surgery or downtime. This is another way to lift without the stitch.
3. Kybella for Targeted Fat Reduction
Kybella is an injectable treatment that addresses submental fullness, or a “double chin,” by breaking down fat cells under the chin. The injectable treatment contains deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule that aids in permanent fat reduction. Once injected, Kybella gradually reduces fat in the treatment area, creating a more contoured and defined jawline and upper neck. Results develop slowly over time and a series of sessions is often needed for optimal results.
4. CoolSculpting for Neck Fat Reduction
CoolSculpting is another non-invasive option for those looking to permanently reduce fat in the neck and under the chin. Using controlled cooling technology, CoolSculpting freezes and destroys fat cells, which are gradually removed by the body. This non-surgical treatment requires no downtime, making it an appealing option for people with busy schedules who are looking to reduce fat deposits that contribute to “turkey neck.”
5. Jawline Filler for Enhanced Definition
For individuals who want to enhance the contour of their jawline, dermal fillers can provide structure and definition without surgery. Hyaluronic acid fillers are commonly used in the jawline area to improve facial balance and create a more defined profile. Dermal fillers add structure and lifting to areas where sagging or lack of definition might be present, enhancing the overall appearance of the neck and lower face.
6. Sculptra for jawline, neck and chest rejuvenation
In addition to the face, Sculptra can be used on the jawline, neck and chest for skin tightening. Not only does it give natural looking results, but it is the most natural of all the injectables because it uses an all-natural sugar molecule, derived from alpha hydroxy acid, to stimulate your own body’s production of collagen which in turns gives volumization, lifting, skin tightening and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I call it the Sculptra glow.
7. Exosome Therapy for Regeneration
Exosome therapy utilizes growth factors and proteins to stimulate cell repair and collagen production in the skin. Exosomes can help rejuvenate the neck by promoting tissue repair and regeneration, addressing issues like sagging and fine lines. As a newer tool in our armamentarium, exosome therapy provides a non-invasive alternative to support the skin’s natural renewal processes.
8. Elastiderm and Nectifirm – Products for Improved Texture
Elastiderm by Obagi and Nectifirm by Revision are both topical treatments designed to improve the appearance of the skin on the neck. Nectifirm combines peptides, antioxidants, and botanical extracts to support a firmer neck. Elastiderm, on the other hand, focuses on enhancing skin elasticity, reducing fine lines, and improving firmness. These products can be effective additions to a daily skincare routine, promoting smoother and improved skin texture over time.
This Thanksgiving season, while we gather and give thanks with family and friends, let’s also take a moment for self-care. Addressing common aging concerns, like “turkey neck,” can help us feel more confident and refreshed. With the many non-invasive options available, smoother skin and a more contoured neckline can be attainable without the need for surgery or extensive recovery.
