#NoFilter: Two Things You Can Do NOW to Get That Years-Younger Selfie

Beautiful looking skin starts deep. If you haven’t made the investment in a smooth, makeup-ready surface, no amount of skillful makeup application will hide damaged skin. And worse, concealing makeup will act as another thick dulling layer, accentuating signs of aging. Cut to the root of the problem and pep up your skin’s surface first, then use minimal makeup to correct, not overhaul, your skin’s appearance.

Here, we ask NDDA spa manager, Joni Thomas tells you what you can do to turn back the clock . . .

To get that flawless “how old is she really?” look, it’s essential to start with the basic health of your skin. Thinking about your skin as a canvas means thinking about three important factors: texture, tone and tightening.

“These are the three things I start with when anyone comes to me and asks what I can do to make the biggest difference in the shortest amount of time.”

For tightening, I go with Ultherapy, then photofractional laser treatments to even out the skin tone and resurface.

These are two heavy hitters that really make a big difference. When you’re at the point where you are looking for lift, Ultheraphy can give you a huge change, and if you’re not a good candidate for that, the Clearlift laser series can be an alternate option.

And all of this can also be preventative. These treatments work by stimulating collagen production, so by jumpstarting or accelerating that process you stimulate your skin to do what it already does naturally.

Addressing texture, tone and tightening is the best way to make a big difference in your skin, but it’s also just the first step. To really reap the long-term rewards of these treatments, protecting your investment with the right products is the most important thing you can do. I like to recommend products with growth factor. They can help stimulate and rebuild collagen as your skin is responding to treatment.

Texture and Tone:

To get the best texture and tone, you need three months of targeted treatment to undo damage and reveal brighter, healthier layers of skin. Pair a series of fractional laser resurfacing with Fotofacial, also called “Photo-fractional” when paired together to soften fine lines and even out skin tone. We recommend a series of three to five sessions for each.

These treatments work together to stimulate collagen production and reduce pore size, by creating micro-injuries to the skin.  They stimulate a healing response that in turn increases the skin’s elastic and collagen production, preventing fine lines from deepening and giving skin a more radiant look. Optimal results are achieved in about three months, so this can be done in conjunction with Ultherapy.

Ulthera tightens and lifts skin by targeting the underlying tissues with precisely directed sound waves that stimulate collagen into a rebuilding process. And that process means firmer skin where the treatment is used.  It is the only noninvasive treatment FDA approved to lift the lower face (cheeks and jawline) along with the upper face (the skin on the eyebrows, neck, chin). It also improves lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.

You can return to work or other activities immediately. Ultherapy’s dramatic results often have patients asking when they can come back for more, but most people only need one treatment every two years to maintain the correction.
