1. The most important component for healthy skin is protecting your skin from the sun. A broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 is essential on a daily basis. Also, remember to reapply after two hours of outdoor exposure and try to avoid the strongest rays between 10am-4pm. Make your clothes and accessories work for you as sun protection – there is a wide range of UV protective clothing available at many stores. There is also a sun protective laundry additive (Rit Sun Guard Laundry Treatment UV Protectant) you can add to your wash to make your regular clothing UV protective wear.
2. Treat your skin with kindness – wash your face with a gentle cleanser and replenish the skin’s natural oils that moisturize and keep your skin healthy. Try to minimize hot water exposure and apply moisturizer when your skin is damp. A moisturizer with sunscreen is essential during the day and look for a heavier, more moisturizing product for nighttime use.
3. You are what you eat, so eat healthy! Brightly colored fruits and vegetables contain many anti-aging properties. Vitamin A helps cell reproduction and repair. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that protects tissues from free radicals that cause premature aging and wrinkles. It also promotes the production of collagen, giving your skin strength and elasticity.
4. Drink water to hydrate your skin. Skin that is dehydrated shows more wrinkles and lines. Try to always have a water with you to remind yourself to stay hydrated.
